Top Green to Close on 31 October

Unfortunately the time has come for us to close the top green to protect the playing surface over the winter months so it can be in top condition when the season starts again in April. The top green will therefore be closing on 31 October.

However, the club is keeping the bottom green open over the winter months  The bottom green isn’t in as good a condition as the top green, but the club has plans to improve the playing surface by carrying out additional scarifying, aerating and applications of moss killer.  In addition, we have asked the council’s park staff to assist our green team with leaf clearance, which is always a problem at this time of the year, due to overhanging trees.

7 Up Competition – And the Winner is

The final result of this season’s ‘Seven-Up’ social bowling competition was announced today with congratulations to overall (clear!) winner Lee Coffey.
Runner-up was Jacqueline Fullwood who put up an excellent challenge as the season progressed but no-one was a match for Lee’s winning score!
Joyce, on behalf of the Club’s Social Section, presented Lee and Jackie with their winning certificates along with a bottle of some liquid refreshment each to toast their successes!
With several newcomers joining the social bowling competition over the season and developing their games, it looks as though they will have some more challenging competition next year.
Well done to them both and thanks to all who participated in this highly enjoyable and friendly Sunday social competition.

Mid-Season Pairs won by Outliers

The club’s Blue Riband Pairs internal event has been won by a pair of social bowlers who have only recently started playing in the club’s teams but managed to see off challenges from four other combinations which mixed some of the club’s best team bowlers with, in some cases, very new members of Joyce Godfrey’s invaluable social sessions.

Bob Burns, who has only played five league matches since taking up the game this May and Mick Owen who came through the social programme into the fringes of the Tuesday B team last year, won a round robin 7-Up competition which saw Maureen Douglas and John Bouchier in the silver medal slot with absolute tyro Paul Marsh partnering Dave Twigg to a creditable third.

Mick told waiting media representatives: “While it may have been a modest field, Bob and I will not be modest about our win. It’s a shame more people didn’t enter but only because they missed out on a fun and sociable morning. I’m really grateful to the people who did support the event and, of course, Joyce who was a tower of strength in her off-green role.”

Our next social event is the K.Dodd Shield End of Season Triples
