A huge thank you goes to the fourteen volunteers who turned up today to make a start on clearing the overgrown gutters around the green in support of our fantastic grass cutting team.. It was no easy task but they managed to complete the top green in the allocated time.
The bottom green will be tackled on Saturday 22nd July at 10-00am. when it is hoped more volunteers will turn up to share the workload.
Our youngest helper with the gutter clearing whose reward for hard work was having his first bowling lesson. Obviously a future champion.
Manor Park’s resident Crown Green Bowling Club are gearing up to play an active part in this year’s Glossop Carnival by offering Come & Try It sessions for individuals, couples and families as part of what is set to be a fun-filled Sunday in the park.
Club Chair Neal Linsky told us why the club was keen to get involved. “As the country slowly came out of lockdown it was clear that local people and visitors valued the park as a haven to recharge their batteries and give their wellbeing a boost. As one of the cornerstone users of Manor Park, we want to take our part in helping keep it a beautiful and restful place to visit and a great venue for people to do what makes them feel good.”
We believe bowling at our club acts as an engine of wellbeing, with social and competitive players sharing a friendly way to take part in a surprisingly vigorous physical activity.
On Sunday 2nd, when the park is expected to be full of visitors enjoying Glossop Carnival’s stalls and entertainments, the club will be inviting people to book a half hour slot between 11am and 2pm when they can be introduced to the sport of crown green bowling.
The club hope the opportunity will appeal to families, groups of friends or individuals who have always wanted to try the simple to learn, game of bowls. And it’s all free of charge.
