Manor Park Members Win Competition

*** Well done to both Anne and Luke – members of both Manor Park and Gamesley Bowling Clubs ***

The annual West Heaton Open Bowling Competition sponsored by Marston Breweries returned for the first time since Covid and a strong field enjoyed an enjoyable and competitive afternoon.

Winners were a Grandma and Grandson team from Gamesley Bowling, Anne Donoghue and Luke Jones, while the runners up were Ian Cameron and Paul Cardew from Houldsworth Working Men’s Club in Reddish. Prize money was part from Marston’s sponsorship and part from entrance fees with the winning pair received £260, runners up £120, £60 to the semifinalists and £30 to the quarterfinalists. Prizes were presented by West Heaton’s Immediate Past President Jo Taylor in the absence through holiday of current President Jane Philpott.

Thanks to Eddie Tasker for organising and his group of helpers from West Heaton.

Manor Park v Gamesley Friendly

Manor Park entertained Gamesley on 24 September in a friendly match.  Gamesley ended up winning by 7 points, having borrowed 2 of our players to make up 10 a side.

The return match will take place on Saturday 8th October at 2pm.

Trevor Hines

It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Trevor Hines has passed away.
Many of you will have bowled with Trevor in various teams over the years.  He was a great bowler and long time member of our club.  Trevor also bowled for Glossop Bowling Club.
We wish to send condolences to his family.
Trevor’s funeral will be held at Dukinfield Crematorium on Thursday 22nd September at 13.30. There is a wake afterwards at Glossop Cricket Club.

Lots of New Young Bowlers at Manor Park Fun Day

We took part in the Manor Park Fun Day today. There was a huge amount of interest from more than 30 people to have a go at Crown Green Bowling. Our volunteers were rushed off their feet. Well done to all of them for helping to introduce new players of all ages to this wonderful sport which is gaining renewed attention after the Commonwealth Games.

If you are a local or High Peak resident and want to try bowling or join the club, see the website page on becoming a member for details (under the “About Us” menu, on the “Joining Us” page), or come along to one of our social bowling sessions taking place on Tuesdays and Sundays from 10 am – 12 noon.
